Jesus for President
In a presidential race which many watch with hope, fear, and fascination, many endorsements have been made. Instead, I nominate Jesus. It is in our interest that Jesus rule because only God has the wisdom to govern a nation. The God of Israel said, the Rock
of
Israel spake to me, He that ruleth over men must be just, ruling in the
fear of God. And he shall be as the light of the morning, when
the sun riseth, even a morning without clouds; as the tender grass
springing out of the earth by clear shining after rain. (2 Samuel
23:3-4)
Some counter argue that they do not want to be under a theocracy, as if they thought the appointment of wicked rulers was better than what God could do. Even so God's kingdom does not operates as the world's does. Rather, in the kingdom of God, the rule of Jesus in the heart's of people would tend to elect rulers in the same mold. And when he was demanded of the
Pharisees, when the kingdom of God should come, he answered them and
said, The kingdom of God cometh not with observation: Neither
shall they say, Lo here! or, lo there! for, behold, the kingdom of God
is within you. (Luke 17:20-21)
So for those who want to elect someone after Jesus's heart what are the qualifications? He has told you, O man, what is
good;
And what does the LORD require of you But to do justice, to love
kindness, And to walk humbly with your God? (Micah 6:8)
A conversion to Christianity has
to
proceed to the point of utmost respect for God to produce ruling wisdom.
The fear of the LORD is the beginning of wisdom: and the knowledge of the holy is understanding. (Proverbs 9:10)
This quality avoids the deadly
sin of
pride and enables the nearness of God. Godly humility is not some
self-depreciating character, but rather that one's focus is not unduly
on oneself. Instead healthy humility has an outward focus
preferably on God not inconsistent with assertiveness or even boldness.
This quality has no heart for
petty
revenge. This protect innocents from the wrath of the king.
Leading a large nation is not a
task
for the timid. A good ruler has to deal successfully with many
evils and bullies to protect his nation.
David said moreover, The LORD that delivered me out of the paw of the lion, and out of the paw of the bear, he will deliver me out of the hand of this Philistine. And Saul said unto David, Go, and the LORD be with thee. (1 Samuel 17:37) It is vexing then that so many are determined to elect candidates with criminal histories or with a reasonable suspicion thereof, with enormous egos, with antichrist agendas, or other obvious disqualifications. Instead elect someone after God's heart. God chose David to be king because these sort of things were in his heart. He was a shepherd, just as Jesus is the good shepherd. You need to make a similar choice. Because politics are far from transparent, it often seems wiser and safer to only endorse ideas and not persons. However, I think it is well to say that I intend to vote for Ted Cruz in tomorrow's primary.
